Cliveden

A memorable experience for visitors

Once famous as the home of the wealthy Astor family, and meeting place of the ‘Cliveden Set’, the estate is now among the most popular destinations of the National Trust.

Sitting high above the Thames, with the Chilterns close by, this is a place rich with story, teeming with life and offering a huge range of landscapes, habitats and natural beauty.

Exploring the landscape

But such bounty brings its own challenges with large numbers of visitors most of whom gravitate to a small number of locations within the huge site.

While a partner at FCBStudios, I developed a new Visitor Experience Plan to encourage visitors to explore the full range of landscapes, gardens and outdoor beauty that the whole estate had to offer.

Layers of story

By expressing the many layers of story and meaning in each of these landscapes and gardens across the estate we were able to help improve traffic and people flow, improve the food offer and, most important, create a more compelling, meaningful and memorable experience for visitors.
