Clare de Lune Ceramics
I began working with clay five years ago – in part as an antidote to big architectural projects that take years to deliver, but also as a means to discovering my own creative voice.
Crafted from porcelain and stoneware, my work is a celebration of the everyday, of food and flowers, of tea and time with loved ones. Influenced in particular by modernism, and more generally by Eastern ideas of letting go of mental noise, I am drawn to pared-back forms whose quiet presence is in some way energised by a contrasting texture, or an unexpected movement.
Inspiration comes in many forms but is always sensory: Taiwanese tea ceremony, autumn seedpods, and the shifting contours of landscape are my current obsessions. My colour palette derives from the whites, greys and greens of the raw clay bodies which create the form. I then introduces a range of oxides to emphasise a particular form or evoke a specific mood.
Passionate about working on the potter’s wheel, and using hand-building techniques as a complement, I love the physicality of making, the embracing and letting go of ideas. So each pot has its own story to tell and invites you fully into the present moment of tasting, touching, sharing, and seeing.
It’s Spring 2025 and I’m deep in creation mode, preparing for my first public exhibition at Arthaus Great Elm 2025 in Somerset — part of the Frome Festival. The show runs from July 5th-July 13th. More details and more pots coming soon.
